ROYAL MAIL COMPLETES ITS FIRST CLASS TRIP AROUND SOME OF THE UK’S MOST ICONIC LANDMARKS

• 14 new stamps released today which complete the 26-set UK A-Z issue
• The new stamps chart some of the nation’s most iconic places
• The UK has some of the most remarkable tourist attractions in the world .

Royal Mail’s dramatic 26-stamp, alphabetical odyssey around the UK concludes with the second part (M-Z) of its UK A-Z series and the launch of 14 new stamps, featuring iconic landmarks across all four countries.

UK A-Z Part 2, issued on 10^th April, celebrates some of the UK’s most famous tourist attractions. They range from the impressive Narrow Water Castle in Northern Ireland and the dramatic Urquhart castle in Scotland to the beautiful Portmeirion in Wales and the contemporary Snowdon Aviary in London Zoo.

OLYMPIC FIRST FOR TEAM GB – NEXT- DAY STAMPS TO BE ISSUED FOR EACH TEAM GB GOLD MEDAL WIN DURING LONDON 2012

During the Olympics ( 27 July -12 August ), Royal Mail will be issuing stamps for each Team GB gold medal winner the day after their victory. This is a first for any host country, and a first for Royal Mail issuing next-day stamps.

 

•             Royal Mail’s stamp design for each gold medal Team GB win is revealed today for the first time by British Olympic gold medallist Sally Gunnell OBE

•             The main image of the stamp will, wherever possible, be a photograph of the Team GB athlete or team in action from their gold medal winning final. Where this is not possible, the image will be of the athlete’s gold medal winning journey taken from a heat or from their gold medal award moment on the podium

•             This will be the first time any host country has used action shots for Gold Medal stamps and issued them next day, during the Games. This will also be a first for next day stamps from Royal Mail

•             Royal Mail’s team of picture editors, graphic designers, etc, will be on standby and ready to swing into action when Team GB strikes gold.

•             Gold Medal stamps will be on sale at 500 selected UK Post Offices by lunchtime the next day and on www.royalmail.com  after each gold medal win by Team GB. They will then be distributed three times during the Games to a further 4,500 Post Offices nationwide .Many of the 500 selected Post Offices will, for the first time, open on Sundays during the Games

The Russian Post has issued new stamps on 27 February 2012, dedicated to the mascots of the coming Winter Olympic and Paralympics Games in Sochi, in 2014. The stamps are beautiful and sure to be liked by one and all !!

 

 

Mascots of the XXII Winter Olympics and XI Winter Paralympics 2014 in Sochi

Souvenir sheets devoted to the mascots of the Olympic Games 2014 are the first issues of philatelic products with symbols of the Games in 2012.They depict mascots of the XXII Olympic Winter Games 2014 in Sochi - the Polar Bear, the Hare and the Leopard and mascots of the XI Paralympic Winter Games - the Ray of Light and the Snowflake.

During this year the mascots will also appear on artistic stamped envelopes, postcards and envelopes with commemorative stamp. 

Totally, it is scheduled to issue 4 souvenir sheets, about 45 stamps of different subjects, postcards, envelopes, and sets in the artistic cover dedicated to the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2014 in Sochi. It is a record number for the entire history of the Winter Games.  

Among the subjects that will be used for postal products "Sochi 2014" are winter sports, mascots of the Games 2014, Olympic sports venues, and views of Krasnodar Krai. The end of series "Russian Black Sea coast tourism" will be issued in April 2012 and the continuation of series "Winter Olympic sports" is scheduled to be issued in October 2012.

Special Covers cancelled without stamps…

Recently NEPEX 2012 was held in Shillong.Six special covers were issued during the exhibition .It is interesting to note that in this exhibition, India Post issued covers cancelled without stamp  . Perhaps the philately section of North East Postal circle  is not aware about the genuine special covers.

New stamps on London 2012 Olympics

 

Date of Issue :  1 January 2012

Isle of Man Post will issue  on 1st January, a set of seven  stamps and a beautiful  Miniature Sheet on different sports events of London OLYMPIC 2012. The striking feature of this issue is sheetlet of each stamp which depicts the background picture of the respective event. This makes the sheets awesome !! It is a wonderful set for collectors of Sports and Olympic theme.

Membership includes a subscription to Maximaphily USA, a quarterly journal featuring news of
the maximum card world and articles by members and experts in the field.

  

Articles featuring topical collecting typically are richly illustrated with maximum cards and share the author's insightful knowledge of the subject and his own personal and helpful experience.
The pages providing information regarding activities of individual members allows members to place free advertising for trading, buying, selling and exchanging information. Here the
opportunity to make contacts with members in other countries is provided.
There are articles evaluating maximum cards according to accepted standards, pointing out good qualities and making suggestions for improvement.

Mail bid auctions are held on occasion, featuring inexpensive cards donated by members.
Every issue provides a page or two of illustrations of the most recent maximum card creations by our members. Every member gets a chance to show his cards and write an article about them.

300 days to go Olympic definitive stamps

"People sending letters to friends or family in the UK and overseas tourists sending mail abroad will be able to commemorate this historic event by using these stamps to post their items. As we reach the 300 day countdown, it's exciting to see millions of these stamps rolling off the printing presses."

As we approach the 300 days to go milestone (Saturday 1^st October) to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Royal Mail has announced that millions of definitive stamps for use next year are rolling off the printing presses.

The stamps will be available from all 11,800 Post Office branches across the UK from Thursday 5^th January 2012. There are four new stamps - two 1^st Class and two for Worldwide use to post items up to 20 gm in weight. Both sets of values feature one stamp with the London 2012 Olympic Games logo and one with London 2012 Paralympic Games logo.

Around a million stamps an hour in striking orange and blue inks will be printed on specialist stamp printing presses in Walsall, West Midlands over the next few days.

Diwali stamp from Canada now available at 40 postal outlets

PyeongChang - Host of the XXIII Olympic Winter Games 2018

Pyeongchang (Pyeongchang-gun) is a county in Gangwon province, South Korea. It is located in the Taebaek Mountains region, and is the most popular winter sports location in South Korea. It is also home to several Buddhist temples, including Woljeongsa. Pyeongchang County is located approximately 180 km (110 mi) east of Seoul, the capital of South Korea. Pyeongchang will host the third Winter Olympiad  2018 Winter Olympic Games.

One commemorative stamp celebrating the hosting of the XXIII Olympic Winter Games is issued, conveying  delight and exhilaration and looking forward to the date when this dream is realized in PyeongChang -- a locale that is surrounded by Taebaek Mountains to its east, the Charyeong Mountains to its southwest, the Odae Mountain and Gyebang Mountain to its north. The locale is more than 700 meters above sea level and receives over 250 cm in average annual snowfall.

Gold medal stamps at 2012 Olympics by Royal Mail

With one year to go to London 2012, Royal Mail has announced that it will issue special gold medal stamps to celebrate Team GB Olympic gold medal wins.This is the first time that Royal Mail will be issuing  stamps to mark Olympic victories.   The stamps will feature both individual and team gold medal wins.

Details of the actual designs themselves are set to be announced later, when Royal Mail will also announce its plans to commemorate the Paralympic Games.

Royal Mail issued its first Olympic Games Stamps in 1948, with four stamps bearing the five Olympic Rings.

It will be the third time a host nation has issued stamps to mark individual Olympic gold medal wins.  Australia Post was the first postal service to issue gold medal stamps to mark home team Olympic victories in 2000, with Hellenic Post in Greece following suit in 2004. In 2008 China Post issued a single commemorate sheet of stamps to mark their national team’s success in Beijing.  More recently Canada Post issued a stamp to mark the first ever gold medal won on home territory at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver in 2010.

The 27^th July sees the issue of the final set of ten stamps in Royal Mail’s countdown to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The three-part series has seen 30 stamps issued, reflecting all sports competed.

Royal Mail has a history of celebrating key moments in UK sporting history.  England’s World Cup football victory in 1966 was the first UK sporting achievement to be marked by a set of Special Stamps with more recent stamp issues featuring the England rugby team’s 2003 historic World Cup win and the English cricket team’s 2005 memorable Ashes success.
